Safer Sleep at Banana Moon Billericay
Following the latest national communication about safer sleep and updates to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), we want to reassure families that the safety and wellbeing of every child at Banana Moon Billericay remain our highest priority.
Safe sleep has always been an important part of our everyday safeguarding practice, and we continue to review our procedures in line with national guidance.
What does safer sleep mean?
The updated guidance reinforces the importance of providing babies and children under two with a safe, individual sleep space, a firm, flat sleep surface and a clear sleeping environment. Children should not become too hot, their heads should remain uncovered, and sleeping children must be closely supervised. Babies under six months must have an adult in the same room for every sleep.
Our approach at Banana Moon Billericay
We already follow established safer sleep practices, including:
- A dedicated cot room for all children under one.
- Individual, suitable sleep spaces.
- Recorded sleep checks every five minutes, including breathing and wellbeing checks.
- Close supervision of sleeping children.
- Leaders trained in Lullaby Trust safer sleep guidance.
- Safer sleep information available to parents in our parent room.
- Regular reviews of our practice in line with national guidance.
Working together with families
We understand how important it is for parents to feel confident that their little ones are safe and well cared for. We encourage families to access trusted advice from
The Lullaby Trust and the
NHS safer sleep guidance.
At Banana Moon Billericay, safer sleep has always been part of how we care for babies and young children. If you have any questions about your child’s sleep routine, our team is always happy to help.
